Aloha from Oahu! Today we checked out of our Air bnb in Hilo and drove back across the island to Kona to catch our flight to Oahu. We are still trying to wear our heavier clothes while we travel, which made the open air airport verrrry hot today. But our Hawaiian Air flight was on time and brief, as it is only a 50 minute flight from the Big Island to Oahu.

Safe and Sound in Oahu
We have a rental car for just a few days here because parking in Honolulu is off the chain expensive, so we are going to make the most of our few days of easy transportation. We got another Guide Along audio guide of Oahu, and that is what we will use on our island travels for the next few days. Our air bnb is not ready until Thursday, so for the next two nights we are staying at a hotel near the airport that – let’s just say- appears to be it’s own adventure. 😬😂

Ko Olina
After we checked in we headed right back out with our Guide Along app, and braved the Honolulu traffic to go to the Ko Olina area of town and start our explorations. We actually stayed out here last time we came to Oahu in 2012, and as a surprise for Jenna we spent a few nights in Disney’s Aulani Resort. It was a gorgeous area that has built up significantly since our last visit, and they have four swim and snorkel sheltered lagoons around all the resorts in the area. We went for a nice snorkel at Lagoon 4. While it was a pretty snorkel area with a good variety of fish, most fish were very small in the lagoon and it just couldn’t compare to our Big Island experience yesterday at Punalu’u and Two Steps. After snorkeling we walked a long path that connects all the lagoons and watched a marvelous Oahu sunset. We visited the Aulani resort briefly, which was as beautiful as we remembered, and then headed to dinner at Monkeypod. We split a salad and a fish sandwich and a piece of butterscotch pie for a very yummy dinner in a fun atmosphere. A great start to our Oahu adventures!
