So we crossed the international date line last night as we slept! It’s a strange feeling to go to bed on Sunday and wake up on Tuesday morning! As a young, tired mom and later as an old, tired school employee, I fantasized about sleeping from Sunday to Tuesday, but in my dreams it always involved more than seven hours of rest! 😂
Being at sea, time and date changes are “events” that are basically handled by the captain, who tries to keep you close to what it will be on your next port of call. Here they had us turn our clocks back an hour on Saturday night, and then just wake up on Tuesday and pretend Monday never happened! The ship’s calendars are all forwarded, but my iPhone has yet to catch up with the plan. Poor little phone… thinking Monday the 13th still exists for me.
Frankly, at sea losing a day while cruising feels meaningless, but in my everyday life it would have been much more impactful. Just glad it wasn’t my birthday 😂.

So with Monday the 13th being a wash, we woke up Tuesday morning and did what we Americans do on Tuesday morning… watch football! 😂 Technically it was “Monday Night Football”, but not where we are!
We spent the rest of Tuesday messing around the ship. The buffet restaurant on board sometimes does theme days for different countries, and today was “Canada Day”, which involved having a make-your-own-poutine set up, along with beaver tail pastries for dessert, among other things. Fun!

Other Tuesday highlights/activities included more shows (including a “sand artist” who was very interesting), trivia, and book reading (yay!). We didn’t do any pool because it was actually chilly on deck (low 60s and windy) today!

Our day concluded with another silent disco party under the moonlight. If you’ve never been to one, everyone gets a pair of headphones and there are multiple channels of music you can switch between and dance to. So, you literally dance to your own (chosen) beat with a group of others doing the same. Our party had three different DJs spinning three different types of songs (one mostly rock/pop, one classic rock, and one oldies) and each dj had an assigned color (red, blue, or green). The headsets they gave us had three channels on them (one for each dj), and after you selected your channel, your headphones glowed whatever color of your music/dj selection. So, if you were listening to “green”, you could see who else in the crowd was listening to the same music as you, and you often found yourself dancing with strangers who chose the same color. Of course you could change colors at any time, which I often did. It’s so funny to watch because although it’s not loud with music, it’s a whole bunch of dancing people often singing different songs aloud, or yelling their favorite lines or dancing the Cupid shuffle right next to people doing the YMCA. Slightly chaotic, but big fun.

To our American friends and family, goodbye from the future! Hope your Tuesday is as good as ours was, and thanks for adventuring with us!
