Brisbane, Boats, Bridges, and Bye to our Beloveds

So today- Saturday – was the day Connor and Jenna left us to head back home via Sydney. They caught a flight on Saturday afternoon to Sydney (where they leave from tomorrow morning), so we had one last breakfast outing together before they left. My heart is sooo heavy at their leaving. I know they need to get back to work, but without them I am feeling very far away from home. It was a tough day watching them leave.

When Rob got back from the airport and returning our rental car, he knew I needed a distraction, so we set out to do some exploring of the city of Brisbane. I have loved what we have seen so far, and Saturday’s excursions solidified that. This is one GREAT town! We started out along the riverfront in the arts district, and popped into the Gallery of Modern Art. Like the art museum we went to in Cairns, it was free to the public! After the museum we breezed along some other waterfront sights like the Ferris wheel and a beautiful Nepalese temple.

Brisbane has great public transportation, including water ferries to take you all over town along their water front. For the amazingly low cost of 50 cents, you can ride the ferries wherever you want. The larger ferries are called the City Cats, and the smaller ones are called “kitty cats”, and they come about every 15 minutes. We rode the water ferry up a few stops to the Kangaroo Point and then grabbbed scooters and scooted across beautiful Story Bridge.

We rode all the way over to Felon’s Brewing, a huge bar and restaurant with a name that is a playful stab at Australia’s not-so-illustrious past.We had a good pub dinner, and then we headed to the Star Casino here in town (which we didn’t know about until we arrived here). We had a fun time doing our usual balancing act of Rob losing his $20 while I won $20, so we broke even. We are not exactly high rollers, but we always have fun.

Thanks for adventuring with us!
