After sleeping in a bit, we started our day at Scenic World in the Blue Mountains. Scenic World is a private entertainment park in a beautiful National Park setting in the mountains, with cheesy tourist touches – think Rock City in a rainforest. To top it off, this month is featuring “Dinosaur Valley” – with fake dinos scattered around the park – think Rock City at Christmas with dinosaurs instead of elves.

Scenic World is on the site of an old coal mine. The owners started tourist rides on the weekends on the incline railway while still operating the mine. Once mining stopped, the site expanded it’s tourist options with four sections: the skyway taking people horizontally from one cliff to another, the incline railway and the cableway taking people from the clifftop to valley floor, and walkways on the forest floor.

We took full advantage of all four sections and spent most of the afternoon enjoying the wonderful scenery from the rainforest floor to clifftop vistas. And we were enthralled by the realistic dinosaurs 😆.

In truth, as cheesy as the dinos were, it’s not hard to believe they roamed this type of environment with the towering trees, massive ferns, and dense growth. This looked like one of the island settings from Jurassic Park.

One of the famous sites in this area is the Three Sisters. Each of the Three Sisters stand at 922, 918 & 906 meters tall, respectively.

The story of the Three Sisters in the Blue Mountains is a traditional Aboriginal legend about three sisters—Meehni, Wimlah, and Gunnedoo—who fell in love with three brothers from a rival tribe. Since tribal law forbade the union, the brothers tried to capture them, leading to a major battle. To protect them, a witch doctor turned the sisters to stone, planning to reverse the spell later, but he was killed in the fighting, leaving them as the rock formations forever.
We went into town for the evening and enjoyed pizza and salad. And surprise . . . we found a local brewery to enjoy an after dinner drink. Another great day of retirement.
