Sydney Day 4: Watson’s Bay & Bondi Beach

Another day of travel via Sydney’s excellent public transportation! We started today by getting fortified by a giant pancake breakfast, knowing we wanted to take advantage of the (relatively cool) weather by hitting a few hiking trails. From there we headed back down to Circular Quay (Sydney Harbor) to catch our first transportation of the day, the ferry to Watson’s Bay.

Watson’s Bay

Our first stop of the day was the scenic harborside suburb of Sydney, Watson’s Bay. They have a bunch of nice parks and hikes, and were known for being an important fortress site in Sydney’s defense. We took the scenic hike up to their lighthouse for some great views and fresh air.

Bondi Beach

From the lighthouse, we hiked back to the town bus stop and caught the bus to Sydney’s famous Bondi Beach. This iconic spot is home to Sydney’s surfers, hikers, hippies, and beachgoers, drawing big crowds and having lots of commercial spots to support it. What a great spot to chill!

Bondi has several miles of coastal walks that you can take from there, so we headed out on the path, making stops as we went for beautiful cliffside coastal scenery. We made it as far as Marks Park before deciding to head back and catch our train and bus to our condo.

After we got back to our place and changed, we walked around the (literally) hundreds of food places that fill the streets in Chinatown, and decided to try a few things that were new to us. The first (Nene Chicken) served K-dogs, Korean “hot dogs”, which consisted of fried batter on a stick (like a corn dog) with your choice of filling inside (sausage, cheese, or both), and then your choice of spice on top of it (we went with spicy chili ranch). I wanted to dislike this artery-clogging madness, but alas… it was incredibly tasty. We then moved on to a very “authentic” Chinese spot where we got a chicken congee soup and some fried rice. I think I have only had “Americanized” Chinese food, and this was very different.

After dinner we did a bit more walking around to hopefully burn off some k-dog calories, and came across the “Christmas Naughty or Nice market”, which was basically just a photo shoot fun area, so of course we had to try it out!

Rob made me do this

For those keeping track at home, our current science experiment entitled “Door Dash Order (Day 3)” remains untouched in our lobby. This poor customer has to be getting faint by now. Rob refuses to allow me to remove it, honoring our scientific studies and claiming he won’t bail me out of Australian prison for dinner theft. For marital peace and scientific advancement, I am currently complying.

Got to be food poisoning in a bag at this point, right?

Thanks for adventuring with us!
