Hawaii Day 2: Sun and Sea Life

Up with the sun again (yes, those of you who know us should continue to be shocked), but this morning was a great time to be up early, as our resort does a free dolphin show on Saturday mornings (Dolphin Sunrise Splash). The dolphins are allowed to participate in the show “if they want to”, so today only Kayo (a 25 year old dolphin born here) chose to participate. The rest were following the Rob LeBeau plan and still in bed. 😂

Dolphins and Turtles and Eels… Oh My!

We spent the rest of our day snorkeling in the salt water lagoon and hanging by the pool. The snorkeling was actually great, and we saw a lot of cool creatures! Highlights were seeing a bunch of eels (we identified at least 3 different kinds of the 60+ types that live here in Hawaii!), crabs, sea turtles, and tons of fish including trumpetfish, Moorish idols, and colorful fish like the butterfly fish and the state fish of Hawaii- the reef triggerfish, which (fun fact!) is called the humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa. On our last trip to Hawaii in 2012, Rob, Jenna, and I spent days memorizing that fish name. 😂

The Last Resort

Despite my comments from yesterday declaring that I live here now, my $22 hot dog at lunch reminded me that retired educators probably don’t, in fact, live at this resort. 😂 Tomorrow it is time to move on to a hotel that is a bit more – ummm- affordable for us, and from there we will be be staying mostly in air b&bs. Frankly, just being in Hawaii is enough joy for me… I’d probably sleep in the car if that was the only way we could stay! As we walked to dinner tonight with the stunning Hawaiian sunset as our backdrop, we saw another mongoose. I tried to get a photo of him, but he was FAST, so it’s just a blur. Already mourning leaving here, but so excited for the adventures head! A few more photos below from our resort and my ever-entertaining husband.

Sound up to hear THE BIRDS!

Thanks for adventuring with us!
