Hot Diggitty Dog!

I thought I wasn’t going to post anything today because we didn’t do much, but then I thought about certain friends (I’m looking at you SWS and HAB!) and thought “Heyyyy… we actually DO have friends who will want to hear about this hot dog.” 😂😂 So for those who do want to hear about it, today we tried the yummy Hula Dogs food truck. If you and I have ever had a conversation about hot dogs (which sadly isn’t as weird of a possibility as it should be), then you might know how in love I have been with the Puka Dogs restaurant on Kauai since we ate there in 2012. For those not familiar, Puka Dogs serves veggie or sausage dogs on big, soft Hawaiian bread rolls with their own special fruit relishes like pineapple, coconut, or mango, and a special lilikoi mustard. Sooooo good, and it was featured on Anthony Bourdain’s “No Reservations.” I have been seeking to replicate that hot dog experience ever since with no luck. Evidently the husband and wife owners of Puka Dog divorced, and the wife opened her own spot in Honolulu. We found her food truck today, and it was really good. She has the same basic format, but also added a taro roll option. Maybe not quite Puka Dog level (or that could just be my nostalgia talking), but if you are a hot dog fan like we are, it will hit the spot.

We had some errands to run today, and then headed over to our local CVS and got our flu and Covid shots. We are going to be doing so much more traveling (including our cruise departing this week), we wanted to be up to date on any preventative healthcare we might need. I hate that health care has such a political component to it now, and I am not one to deliberately stir controversy, but I will say that it felt nice that here in Hawaii we could just step right in, get what shots we chose, and it was a no fuss, no wait procedure.

Day ended with pool time, and we hope to get one final beach day in tomorrow. I guess I can’t really say “thanks for adventuring with us” today, as I am not sure hot dogs and shots qualify as adventures, but I will say “thanks for reading” and for all the lovely birthday wishes yesterday. 56 is definitely looking like it will be my best year yet!

We were out to watch the sea turtles beach at night and it was right there, so several of us tried them. They were so good!
