Woke up in Adelaide today to an overcast day in the 60s, which I consider pretty good weather for a kayak tour! We had signed up for the Dolphin Sanctuary and Ships’ Graveyard Kayak Tour with Adventure Kayaking this morning. Our tour group of 16 kayakers met with our sweet guides Abby and Chris for a two hour paddle. The tour took us through the protected Dolphin Sanctuary in Barker Inlet (home to about 20 dolphins they believe) and the Garden Island Ships’ Graveyard with about 25 abandoned shipwrecks in it. The 25 ships (plus one “new” one) have been there since the early to mid 1900s, and not a lot of explanation was given as to why or how they were wrecked and/or left behind, but you can see part of many of them depending on the tide levels. We went through the beautiful mangrove area of the river and saw a bunch of crabs, and we saw several dolphins from a distance. A really nice paddle!

Adelaide Central Market
We headed from our paddle to the Adelaide Central Market, which has a weekend market with over 750 stalls selling everything from fresh meats and produce, to bakeries, flowers, books, candles, and so much more. We grazed our way through the stalls for lunch, and enjoyed the sights (and tastes)! I meant to take more photos, but was caught up in the enjoyment of the place… and their Portuguese tarts. 😋

Amazing Adelaide
We did some driving (and a bunch of walking) through the city today, and got a feel for this pretty area. We visited everything from the giant-sized Scotty the Scotsman to churches, sports venues, and historic plazas. Adelaide is quite lovely!

We found out at dinner tonight (good Japanese food in our hotel) that Oprah Winfrey is staying in our hotel, so we’ve been on “Oprah Watch” ever since. No sightings so far! She is touring and arrived in Adelaide yesterday. After dinner we decided to drop a few dollars at the casino next to our hotel (and do some more Oprah hunting- guess she is busy with her speaking engagement 😂). No wins tonight, but it was a fun evening and we are back getting ready for tomorrow’s tour to the wineries of Barossa Valley!
Thanks for adventuring with us!
