The “Retirement Gap Year” Continues!

By Rob

Betsy and I missed out on the concept of a “gap year” when we were younger. We both worked during high school and college, went immediately into professional jobs after college (necessitated by the need to pay off student loans), and were fortunate to have very few breaks between employment over the years. As a result, since 1985, we have continuously worked, with the last 35 years in full time professional jobs. Since taking early retirement in September 2025, we have thoroughly enjoyed waking up every day and choosing what we want to do instead of what we have to do. It’s amazing, and refreshing, and costly (🤭)!

Our original plans to get jobs in 2026 after our initial around the world retirement trip has been pushed back until 2027; in large part so we can fully engage in Jenna’s wedding this Fall, but also because we really like not working!! So, we will continue to travel and enjoy the retired life for the rest of this year. Which also means you get to enjoy (or endure) several more months of LeBeau On The Go!!

We are currently in Atlanta and leave on a 7 week trip today (Sunday). This trip includes a 25 day cruise from Ft Lauderdale, FL through the Panama Canal, and up the west coast of Mexico and the US to Vancouver, British Columbia. We then make our way back to Atlanta over three weeks via flights and driving through Las Vegas, Sedona, Winslow (look for me standing on a corner and Betsy in a flatbed Ford), Albuquerque, Roswell, Carlsbad, Dallas, and Atlanta.

Be on the lookout for blog updates, statue shenanigans, food pics, a brewery (or two or three), old people hiking, and beautiful scenery.

Thanks for adventuring with us!

At the airport and ready for the next adventure.
