Wakin’ Up in Vegas

Travel Day

Yesterday (Thursday) ended up being quite a long day for us, as it was one of those travel days where things just didn’t go as planned. We had to exit our cabin on our cruise ship by 8:00 a.m, and by 9:30 we had our luggage and were hopping in a cab to the airport. Our flight was scheduled to leave Vancouver at 1:15 p.m.,when we would head to Vegas via Salt Lake City. Unfortunately our plane had mechanical problems and our flight was delayed. We ended up being rerouted through Seattle, with our next flight leaving at 5:30 pm so we had a longgggg wait in the airport. We made it to Seattle and caught our next connection with no problem, which put us into Las Vegas at 11:15 p.m. We finally arrived at our hotel around midnight, and boy were we exhausted!

Feelin’ Hot, Hot, Hot…

After a good sleep, our first thought on seeing the current temperature (100 degrees F) was that the pool was about the only outdoor thing we cared to do today. We hit the pool for about an hour, which was plenty of time to bake in this oven of a city. We are staying at the Excalibur this visit, where we have stayed once before, and found the rooms to be decent and the amenities to be pretty good too. They also have really good weekend rates, as opposed to many Vegas hotels.

After a quick shower, we headed to my early Mother’s Day “linner” at the Bacchanal Buffet at Caesar’s Palace. Their buffet tonight had all my top favorite food items: crab legs, lobster, dim sum, and pizza, so it was a perfect treat for Mother’s Day! I was a verrrry happy (and VERY full!) camper when we left.

Checking Out the Strip

We thought since the sun was setting and it was later in the day that perhaps if we decided to walk around, it would be cooler. Spoiler alert: it was not. Still close to 100, and we were glued to each other (and our clothes) in about ten minutes. This place is definitely for the brave. We headed to several casinos on the strip, watched the fountain show at Bellagio (brief video below), and walked about 17,000 steps according to my phone app… you think that was enough to counteract the Caesar’s Palace buffet?!

The Arte Museum

I got an ad on my socials to check out a new spot in Vegas, the Arte Museum, and it looked pretty cool. With this being Mother’s Day weekend, I knew Rob would have a harder time vetoing my choice of activities, so I took full advantage and off we went after dinner. As it turns out, this strange “interactive museum” was like a cross between a lame digital show and a Meow Wolf. There were parts that were sort of cool, but my personal advice would be to save your money and skip this one. One of the parts I liked was a coloring table where you could select one of six animals to color, scan it, and then the animal would “animate”’and join the safari of unique animals tromping around the room on the walls. It was cute.

So the pictures look pretty cool (I know- they suckered me in, too!), but in reality I spent most of these exhibits wondering “Why am in here and how did they convince me to part with $60?”

Tomorrow we change hotels and go pick up our rental car, and then we have a special investigative outing planned to Area 51! Stay tuned for Special Investigation 1 of 2 as we attempt to uncover the truth about aliens (our 2nd investigation will be in Roswell, NM next week).

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms, and thanks for adventuring with us!
