Stupid Germs
We have once again been re-instructed on the lesson of “just roll with the changes” when traveling. We had big plans to check out of our first hotel, pick up a rental car, do some laundry, and go to Area 51 on Sunday, then spend a fabulous day sliding down the shark tank slide at the Golden Nugget pool on Monday. Unfortunately, the cold Rob had caught while on the ship (don’t worry, CDC friends- just a cold!) turned into a days-long event that I also caught a few days after him. While Rob was already on the mend by the time we disembarked (with just a lingering cough), that dang bug hit me full force on Sunday and I spent Mother’s Day needing to rest and feeling pretty miserable (aside from a very nice call from our daughter and future SIL). We wisely but sadly decided to forego our Area 51 plans. After resting most of the day, I did feel up to a bit of shenanigans down on Fremont Street in the old downtown section of Vegas. We heard a great band, watched the zipliner sail overhead, and I spent $10 in a penny slot machine and walked away with $160! Thanks for keeping things in balance, universe!

When I woke up today (Monday) feeling just as bad, my pool plans also went out the window. Rob, however, did get a bit of pool time in, but was devastated to report that they are refurbishing their aquarium at this hotel so the shark tank and slide are CLOSED!! 😭😭 So, for those of you who tuned in to this blog to read about our fact finding mission to Area 51, I regret to inform you that the mystery will remain unsolved. Also, Jenna, sorry about not being able to kidnap you an alien sibling. Just like Sunday, I spent the whole day resting so by evening I felt up to keeping our plans of dinner and a show. Thanks for the excellent recommendation, Hayley B- Sushi Fever was delicious! We also went to see a parody burlesque show at the Rio based on Star Wars characters that was absolutely hilarious and full of things I can never unsee. If you want details, we will have to talk in person!

The Rio also has a Gene Simmons/Kiss museum that has some pretty cool stuff in it. We had a good evening, but ended it early so I can rest up again before tomorrow, when we leave Vegas and (hopefully) head down to Arizona to Horseshoe Bend for a sunset hike. Stay tuned, and thanks for adventuring with us!
