(If you get this reference, you’re probably as old as us!)
This afternoon we had a final lunch in Sedona at the lovely Mariposa restaurant. The restaurant sits high on a hill with amazing views of the rock formations around it. It was a good stop as we bid a sad “Til next time” to beautiful Sedona.

After lunch, we hopped in our trusty little red rental Jeep (she needs a name- any readers have suggestions?) and headed down the highway toward our next destination: Albuquerque, New Mexico!
🎵 Standin’ on a Corner in Winslow, Arizona…🎶
(Go and and finish singing the lyrics to yourself… we know you want to!)
So like any good fan of the Eagles, when Rob and I were mapping this trip and he saw that we would be cutting across Arizona on Interstate 40, he said “Well, we HAVE to stop in Winslow, Arizona!” And when I asked why, he gave me his best Captain Obvious response: “So we can stand on a corner! (Duh!)” Well, I’m not the kind of girl to stand between a man and his corner-standing dreams, so off we went today to our first stop in Winslow, Arizona with the plan of … yep. Standing on a corner. Now lest you think my husband is alone in his corner-standing dreams, fear not, dear reader. Evidently the world is SO full of corner standing dreamers that the little town of Winslow has actually designated a corner in their downtown (N. Kinsley Avenue and E. 2nd Street) as THE corner from the song. Additionally, they have also erected Standin’ on the Corner Park here, which is run by the actual Standin’ on the Corner Foundation. How dang cool is THAT?! I wonder if any musicians dreaming up their lyrics ever envision that whole towns would dedicate monuments to their words?! And this little town is fully commuted to their status as an Eagles fan destination. There are cafes, statues, and stores all on theme.

Winslow was also a historic railroad and Route 66 town. Like we also saw in Victoria, B.C., they built a “grand hotel” back in 1930, La Posada Hotel, right along the railroad tracks to serve as a stop for all the early rail customers. We drove by the hotel (which is still in operation!) and noted that Amtrak still stops there!

Continental Divide
After a root beer float at the local soda shoppe in Winslow (yes- for real!), we hit the highway again and marveled at all the cool rock formation and junky kitschy tourist traps we passed until we reached our next stop, the continental divide. For those of you who clearly should have paid more attention in geography class (like me), here is Rob straddling the continental divide. Evidently half of him will now go to then Atlantic while the other half goes to the Pacific. I’m not sure how this works, but I hope I get to pick which half of him in keeping. 😜

Albuquerque
We finally arrived in Albuquerque around 9:30 p.m. tonight after another time change. We have no big plans here in town, having been here before and checked out most of the tourist spots, but we look forward to a spicy New Mexican brunch tomorrow, hopefully with lots of yummy hatch green chile sauce, before we head to our next overnight spot: Roswell, NM! Stay tuned for alien adventures and White Sands NP pics, and thanks for adventuring with us!
